The Pokémon Company came down hard last night on those that have altered save files in Pokémon Sun and Moon. In total, just under 6,000 bans were handed out to those who were found to have illegally affected their game with third-party software.

The official count from the company puts the number at 5,954 cheaters. Those who cheated will no longer have access to the game’s online functions. No Game Synch, rated online matches, Battle Competitions, or even Global Events. Any attempts to access these will be met with error code 090-0212.

The Pokémon Company also warns players that it will take “similar measures on a regular basis,” so beware. If you cheat, Nintendo is going to find you and mess you up.

What about the infinite Rare Candy trick?

I remember back in the day, we used to have a lot of fun with MissingNo. and the infinite Rare Candy trick. My buddies and I would battle out with all level 100 Pokémon, and have a blast! That’s a glitch that has obtained legendary status and is now part of gaming culture.

In today’s world, it would be erased from history and dismissed as little more than oversight. It’s just a different world we live in.
