Jurassic World Evolution will let you build your own dino park

Shooting dinosaurs is pretty fun. Running from them is pretty fun, too. But what about raising and nurturing them, like someone who asked if they could play god without ever asking if they should? That’s Jurassic World Evolution.

Instead of putting you in a “boots on the ground” dinosaur action game, Evolution puts you in charge of the dinosaur park. You get to decide where to put which dinosaurs, how to respond to inevitable accidents, and more. It honestly looks like a blast. Jurassic Park games over the years have tried and tried to hit the mark, but repeatedly missed that mark, either failing to catch on with a mainstream audience or failing to be interesting in the first place.

Jurassic World Evolution is a different take from the ones we’re used to, but it might also be the one that gets closest to what appears to us about the Jurassic movies. Evolution comes to us by way of Frontier Developments. While Elite: Dangerous might be the studio’s biggest recent game, the studio is best known for the RollerCoaster Tycoon games, so a game like this is right in the team’s wheelhouse.

The game is set to release sometime in Summer 2018 and, while it was announced at Microsoft’s Gamescom conference, the game is heading to PC and PlayStation 4 in addition to Xbox One.
